Privacy policy

3hship is a small publication. This page says what the site stores, in plain terms. It stores less than most sites, and nothing is sold.
Reading the site
The pages are served from Cloudflare, which sees your IP address and request as any host would, to deliver the page and block abuse.
The site records its own anonymous usage, in its own database and with no third-party tracker. For each page view it keeps the page path, the screen width class, how far down the page you read and for how long, where you came from (the referring site and any utm_ tags in the link), your country (from Cloudflare), and where on the page you tapped or clicked and which interactive blocks you used. Unless you are signed in (see below), it sets no cookie and keeps no visitor ID and no IP address, so two visits cannot be tied to the same person. When your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is recorded.
The site's own operator may mark their own visits so they are left out of the counts.
Signing in to respond
To respond to a post you sign in with Google, LinkedIn, GitHub, Discord or X. The site stores your provider, your name and picture as the provider gives them, and, from Google, LinkedIn, GitHub and Discord, your email address and whether the provider says you control it (X gives no email address), together with when you joined and last signed in. The address is kept for the owner only: it is never shown on a page or to other readers. A signed, HttpOnly cookie keeps you signed in for a few weeks; it is sent to every page of the site while you are signed in, and it is the only cookie the site sets.
While you are signed in, your activity is tied to your account. Each page view, tap or click, link press and conversion the usage records above keep is stored with your account number, so the owner can see which pages you read, what you pressed and the responses, claps and reports you made, in time order. Nothing is tied to you before you sign in, after you sign out, or when your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal; the usage records of readers who are not signed in stay anonymous. Signing in with a provider shares nothing with the site beyond the above, and the site posts nothing to your account. You can sign out, or delete your account in the Responses panel, which deletes your responses, claps and reports and your name, picture and email address. Your account number stays on past usage records but then points to no one.
The newsletter
If you subscribe, the site stores your email address, whether you have confirmed it, which form you used, the times you subscribed, confirmed or unsubscribed, and a salted hash of your IP address that limits repeated sign-ups. Nothing is sent to the address until you confirm it from the link in the first email. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and an address that bounces or reports a message as spam is never mailed again.
Email is delivered by Resend, which acts as our processor: it receives your address and the message to deliver it. The sign-up form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a visitor is not a bot.
The contact form
If you write to us through the contact form, the site stores your name, email address, what the message is about (sponsor, collaborate, press or something else) and the message, together with the time, and a salted hash of your IP address that limits repeated sends. A copy is emailed to the site's inbox, delivered by Resend as our processor, and your address is set as the reply address. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile. Messages are used to answer you and are not added to the newsletter. Write to us to have yours deleted.
Advertising
Blog pages may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners can use cookies and similar technology to show and measure ads, including ads based on your earlier visits. You can manage this in Google's ad settings and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Discord and other links
Links to Discord, social networks and other sites leave 3hship. They have their own policies.
How long data is kept, and deletion
Usage records and subscriber rows are kept until they are deleted. To see, correct or delete what the site holds about you, or to be removed from the newsletter, write to hello@3hship.com from the address in question. Unsubscribing through the link in any email takes effect at once. Usage records of readers who are not signed in cannot be traced to you, so they cannot be looked up or deleted individually; those made while signed in are tied to your account number and are removed from your account on request.
